WHAT'S NEW

This app has been updated by Apple to display the AppleWatch app icon. A big performance upgrade for all devices, now optimized for iOS9. This is a major update with the mechanics rebuilt from the ground up to make the game easier and much more fun. The order of the synonyms is now dynamically generated according to difficulty setting and your target word so you don't have to comb through as many, especially the closer you are to your goal. The score algorithm has been rebuilt accordingly. Several bug fixes have also been addressed.

Synonymy Game DESCRIPTION

Synonymy is a non-profit, educational word game narrated by Richard Dawkins that challenges players to find a path between random words through their network of synonyms. By taking the synonym of a word, and then a synonym of that synonym, and so on, you can ultimately arrive at any other word in the English language. Version 3.0 has been rebuilt behind the scenes to make the game easier and more fun without sacrificing the spirit of the game.

The full version of Synonymy. Supports multiplayer, and weekly challenges in which users can compete globally on set start and end words. Every time a path is uncovered by a user, it is tweeted from @synonymywords and posted to our Facebook page.

Synonymy is the first game by filmmaker Christopher Cinq-Mars Jarvis and is narrated by world-renowned author and biologist, Richard Dawkins.

All profits go to various charitable, education-based foundations.

** Works best using iPhone 5/iPad 2 or later and iOS8. Requires iOS7 or later. The game seems to work on older devices but performance might suffer. Please address any concerns to www.synonymy-game.com/#contact

A visualization of the game’s network can be seen here — http://www.gigapan.com/gigapans/159329 — In order to compute relative distance, all synonyms were mapped using 3d graphing software, as if each word were a planet that had a gravitational pull proportional to its number of relationships to other nodes. Above is a 2D representation of that model, a 40,000 x 40,000 image.

Proves just how interesting and vital gaming as a medium can be. 9/10” —Pocket Gamer “Grayout is exceptional as a game, as a compelling narrative, as an experiment in communication. It is simple, poignant, and horrifying.” —Gamezebo Grayout is an aphasiac text game set in a medical dystopia. It’s a prequel to the censorship game Blackbar. In Grayout, you play Alaine, a rebelious resident of the totalitarian community called The Neighborhood, who wakes up in a hospital research lab following an accident… or so she is told. The game is a series of conversations with hospital staff, made challenging by Alaine’s post-traumatic aphasia—a disorder that affects one’s ability to process language. Grayout simulates the experience of having a word on the tip of your tongue, the frustration of knowing what you mean but not how to say it, the feeling of being overwhelmed by the runaway thoughts inside your head and struggling to reign them in. American War History Trivia. Categories: Revolutionary War, Civil War, World Wars, Recent Wars. - NO user submitted questions. - NO multiple choice. - NO lame questions. We love trivia! But we've found most trivia games out there aren't that fun: awkward and sometimes incorrect user submitted questions, multiple choice makes questions too easy or a 25% chance guess, and good quality questions are hard to find. We've decided to do our own Trivia Game right. QUESTIONSare carefully researched so people really interested in the subjects will have fun knowing the answers. INPUT METHODWe don't like multiple choice, but typing from scratch creates a lot of ambiguity and spelling problems. Word Unknown takes inspiration from both hangman and mastermind to create an incredibly fun and simple word game experience. Your objective is to guess a randomly generated word in as few moves as possible using both lexical and deductive logic. Once a legal guess is made, you'll get X's and O's in response. Each X represents a correct letter in the correct position, and each O represents a correct letter in the wrong position. There are five different difficulties (word lengths) to choose from and a daily challenge for each so you can compete with friends! Best of all, the game is 100% free and open source! Word Unknown is the second word game developed by Christopher Cinq-Mars Jarvis. His first is Synonymy, narrated by Richard Dawkins, which received distinctions at GDC and E3.

SugarSweet is a free app I initially made for myself as a tool to help with my ulcerative colitis. Having been diagnosed two years ago, I found sugar alcohols and some artificial sweeteners significantly exacerbated my symptoms, and upon research, discovered this is true of crohn's disease and various other conditions as well. After using it myself, I wanted to share SugarSweet with others who might benefit from knowing exactly what's in their pantry or at the grocery store. The app has a database of various sugar alcohols and sweeteners and searches ingredient lists for matches. Simply scan the barcode of a product, and the app lists any sugar alcohols or artificial sweeteners, along with links to learn more. SugarSweet is free and open source!
Hand Washing Step Reminders
ScrubAlert is a free, non-profit utility that reminds you to wash your hands after you've taken a specified number of steps. Translated into 30+ languages and fully open source, ScrubAlert can have other utilities, like reminding yourself to hydrate after step intervals for example. Step count is a far more effective estimator of bacterial exposure than a simple timer and as an unobtrusive solution for helping kids and adults with hand sanitization practices, Scrub Alert can assist you in staving off unwelcome germs. Using the health app's native pedometer, battery impact is extremely minimal, only querying steps every 15 minutes as a background fetch process and issuing a notification when necessary. The app has no connection to the internet and saves/tracks none of this data. When it's time to wash your hands, a built-in 20 second timer helps encourage lasting hand washing habits.

An Anagram Puzzle Game
Anagraphs, an anagram finding puzzle with a twist, is a free new game that extends the concept of anagrams by including letters that can be rotated to make other characters. In a typical anagram the letters can be re-arranged to form new words ("ma" and "am" for example) but in Anagraphs, the "m" character can be rotated to form a 'w' which allows for the word "aw" to be included. Built with a specially designed font with several characters that can be rotated in such a way, Anagraphs is a challenging linguistic puzzle where you must optimize paths to earn stars used to unlock new levels. Anagraphs is a spiritual successor to the popular word game, Synonymy. Anagraphs is open source and available on GitHub. It is made by Cinq-Mars Media, an educational non-profit with projects and games featured at E3, PAX and other festivals worldwide.

I'm not normally interested in games on iDevices. But Synonymy is like nothing else I've ever seen. It's very simple in concept, but challenging to play. If you love words, you'll love Synonymy. It's brilliant!

KJJ12480

A fun, challenging game that is hard to put down.

CKM51

I greatly enjoy playing this game. However, the means of typing in the challenge code is very annoying and the letters often take off uncontrollably. A fun, stimulating game with a frustrating flaw amplified by a tendency to glitch.

Smaz5557

This game is great, challenging and fun, definitely makes you think about what words actually mean. I do have to give it a little tough love about the way 'challenge mode' works. The way in which you challenge a friend is lengthy and often has glitches. If the challenge mode was easier to enter into it would add another really fun dimension to the game.
