Every musician should work on Ear Training (or Aural Training) and Interval Ear Training is a very important element of ear training. To put it very simply, you will learn to recognise the relationship between two notes (by distance), when they are played together or apart! There are two types of interval listening, harmonic and melodic. In harmonic intervals the notes are played at the same time and in melodic the notes are played one after the other. Easy to remember: Melodic Intervals make melody, Harmonic Intervals make harmony! Many of you will probably want to understand how the names are found and how to work out the interval note names in every key. For this info you probably want to check out my ebook Practical Music Theory (available from justinguitar.com) which will explain all the theory related to this. This app deals specifically with Interval Ear Training, both melodic and harmonic. It will start very easy and gradually get harder as you get more correct and can pass each stage. You can choose from Piano or Guitar Input for..

The Guitar Note Trainer is an app to help you learn the notes on the guitar neckone of the most essential skills for progressing guitarists! It has four training modes, Name The Note where you have to name the note shown on the neck, Find A Note where you have to find a given note on the neck in all 6 positions, Memory Quiz 1 where you have to name a note having been given it's position, and Memory Quiz 2 where you must name all the notes across a given fret (a tough one!!). There are some "Easy" options for those just starting out to limit your range of answers. You also have an audio option to hear the notes as you select them! App REVIEWS

Chiefjo6..

Really hate android but needed to find a dl and I guess there is none. Sad

yostarbu..

This app is great for keeping track of chord changes, but the interface isn’t very intuitive, and if you try to tag a chord the writing is invisible. Also, if you want to see your lowest chord scores, it includes those with 0 changes if you haven’t practiced that chord. But still a very useful app. ALSO: it would be great to add a feature of you could see your progress over time by dates. It would be very motivating if you have 20 changes and get up to 40 in a few weeks!

Fishface..

I can hear it when the timer starts but alas when the 60 second timer is up, I can’t hear the audio alert. Maybe a setting option so I can set the type alert for start and end. I admit I am hard of hearing and do wear hearing aids.

agakshat

It’s easy to use, clean interface. Usability is not amazing, but it’s free! One request: add option to delete or modify a previous score. I mistakenly added 302 chord changes instead of 30, and since then it’s 302 has always been my high score :(

CaptSail

I think it’s a great app and beautifully designed. I like that I can add chords to the library as need to I learn them. Personally, I’m glad that the library is not too extensive so you don’t have to spend a lot of time searching through and just focusing on the chords you want. I might’ve missed something, but I don’t see a way to remove a chord from the library. The only other issue I see is that once I shut the app, it does not remember the cords that I was working on so I have to re-select them each time. That aside, I think the app is brilliant and very helpful for beginning guitar players such as myself. Thanks Justin!

J2NSF

I hadn’t used this app in a couple years but I was having problems with some advanced chord shapes. With the added feature it really is a great app for practicing and advancing.

Jean

1. I have on phone and iPad but have to enter new chords on each. 2. I like that I can add chords but it really needs a full library. 3. Allow you to edit chords after they are entered into the library. I have made a few boo boos that I need to correct but I can’t, frustrating.

drstinky..

I really like this app. It is great. I just wish you could select chords you want to work on from the score menu. I like working on my slowest chords. Also I added a chord and even though I deleted it it comes back when I restart the app. Ghost chords.

Ross723

Played a few dozen in a minute and counted zero. Yes, I played the right chords.

TheDav1

I love this app, it is very helpful in practicing chord changes and I don’t know what I would do without it. However I have also run into a minor problem, when creating a new chord, it doesn’t allow special characters like “/“ which I use for slash chords. Its a very small detail and it doesn’t really matter but again, thank you so much Justin!!!!

migdsig

Great app. Does exactly what it supposed to. Makes it easy to follow progress

miTnosnh..

It does not count the chord changes.

flounder..

So far I’ve only used this app for two practice sessions. I’ve been working through the beginner course and now to the point of working on getting all my cord changes to 60 in a minute. I was tracking this just using the iPhone timer and pencil/paper but this app makes the whole process much more efficient so I end up getting to practice many more chord changes in the same practice session and can track the results is awesome. Having the cord chart right there for reference is another bonus especially just starting to learn the chord I found I ended up having to refer back to the section in the book to make sure I got it right. As someone who started with right hand guitar and switched to playing left handed I also appreciate that in the settings you can enable left handed mode so the chord charts are mirrored. I ended up not using it but I may be in the minority as to me it makes sense to look at the right handed chord chart and just flip it in my head - your results may very. All in all an invaluable tool to add to your practice routine which is definitely not a distraction. Highly recommend this app.

No way to reset “best score” counter to zero so that one can start over; noticed the developers who quickly responded only to say its true and they would put it “on the list” to fix!

SoIFish

Wow! I have been using Justin Guitar to relearn guitar an have done these one minutes changes exercise the last couple years. I’ll use this to generate a random pair, then I’ll try building a cool rhythm... it just an all around cool little app that can improve anyone’s skills. “ it’s cranked to 11!”🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

UtahN

Wish. It would keep track of the scores / records of one minute changes so as to know how progress has been during app use.

cat3medi..

This is so close to being perfect. But not quite there yet

csk137

I just discovered that the two greatest shortcomings of this app have been fixed—the timer sound is now loud enough to hear, and you can hold your finger down on the count “counter” to jump up by large increments instead of having to tap it 50 times. Also it’s showing my previous high count which I could never figure out how to see before on my iPhone. Thanks for the efforts! A very nice app now, great for building up my speed.

ldoff

Can’t tell when to stop! Timer sounds need to be volume adjustable and selectable.

Chikubi

I just upgraded to the new version and am not totally happy. First, it erased all of my prior scores and selected chords which is annoying, but I'll live. Second, the countdown and time-up alert sounds are waaaay too quiet now and it's almost impossible to hear them over my playing - even with the amp at fairly low volume. You had a volume slider before and if anything they were too loud, but that was far better than now. Please fix this. Thirdly, the score increase and decrease buttons don't auto count when you hold them anymore, now you have to hit them once for every count which is totally tedious. This needs fixed too. Lastly, the best score display is tiny. Why can't it just show in the score box like before? All minor things that can be addressed, but considering how much I use this app they really are annoying. Otherwise, this app has been amazingly handy and helpful. I hope to see it return to its former solid self. Thanks!
