Snap Stories about Feelings are therapeutic stories and activities intended to help kids learn about and manage their feelings. Anger, sadness, and worry are among the feelings addressed in the stories. In this FREE app from Snappy Kids LLC, Wendall the worried mouse learns how to manage his worry about the coronavirus or COVID 19. Kids can listen to the story, see it illustrated, and then practice what they have learned by completing the activity book. No reading is required, although kids may enjoy reading along with the story. No clinical training is necessary to use the app. Kids can use the app themselves or with a clinician, parent, or other caregiver. Counselors or therapists who work with children will find the app a welcome addition to their practices. Teachers will find the app useful as well. Worried Wendall and the Bad Germ is the seventh in a series of apps created by Snappy Kids, a company founded by a child psychotherapist and registered play therapist and a design engineer.

Mold on corn can produce toxins that make people sick. Learn how to use black light (UV light) to detect mold on corn, then test it further in the laboratory to see whether it contains aflatoxin. Virtual Labs interactive food science modules train high school and college students in basic laboratory techniques. Corn that is intended for consumption by humans or animals must be tested for the presence of the dangerous Aspergillus mold, which produces a toxin. In this virtual lab, look at a sample of corn under black light to see if it glows. Then, grind up the corn, prepare a solution, and use a test strip to determine whether aflatoxin is present. You’ll practice using a pipette, adding solvent to extract toxins, diluting a solution, and maintaining consistent procedures. Light your Bunsen burner! Test yogurt for contamination in a virtual lab, and judge whether the bacteria you find are harmful or beneficial. Virtual Labs interactive food science modules train high school and college students in basic laboratory techniques. Learn how to use Gram staining to differentiate beneficial bacteria from dangerous bacteria in food samples. Working in the virtual lab of a dairy processing plant, you analyze yogurt samples and follow step-by-step lab procedures to test for Salmonella and E. coli. Sterilize your inoculation loop, and prepare your slide, then view the sample under a microscope and observe the differences in appearance between beneficial bacteria and harmful bacteria. Virtual Labs: Gram Staining familiarizes the user with food science lab equipment and teaches standard techniques for this specific procedure. The interactive initially guides the user through each step of the lab process; then users prepare Gram stain slides on their own to find out for certain whether this batch of yogurt is safe This work was supported by USDA CSREES and USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture under two Higher..
