A point-and-click masterpiece
Pilfer from poets, bargain with bishops and serenade the local simpleton on your hapless quest for absolution. Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game made from Renaissance-era paintings. It's kind of like if Monkey Island had been made in 16th century Flanders, by a time-travelling Monty Python fanboy In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God saw all that he had made, and it was good. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. 'Ooops,' said god, seeing he had created a fool. But before he was able to remedy his error, man spoke; 'No backsies!' he chirped, and scuttled off into the forest Features; -Pointing and Clicking -Renaissance Artwork -Classical Music -Sinful Behaviour -Pie eating contests -Detailed, Interactive Game World -Simple Visual Interface -Friendly, logical puzzles -Nonsense -Piffle -Moments of Surprising Profundity “Four Last Things is an impressive – and impressively funny – adventure that pulls off its Monty Python-esque humor with gusto.” 90/100..

Dad's Monster House tells the story of Carlos' journey after he receives a distress call from his father, pleading for him to return to his old home and rescue his dad. As he continues exploring the house, Carlos encounters many terrifying yet 'cute' monsters. As he solves the puzzles before him, he draws ever closer to the truth Freud once said: "Love and work, work and lovethat's all there is." But what of the pain, the struggles that arise when we're forced to choose between our ambitions and love? In dealing with such conundrums, we’ve all likely hurt those we hold dearest to us. For it's often in the darkness that we feel most safe. With Dad's Monster House, I wish to provide those kinds of heartrending memories a chance at redemption. I dedicate it to scientists, to my childhood dreams; to those I love, and to faded memories. I hope that within you'll find the greatest of answers, be they for your love, for science, or dreams. Crashes towards the end don’t want to say spoilers but it is unplayable towards the end

So I loved this but it's been a year.. Where is part 2?

DarlingN..

Love this game! The realistic background, the difficulty of the puzzles, the characters and their expressions; I really love everything! There is one major problem: I’m on an iPad Pro but the game shuts down completely after the short scene plays with birds falling out of the tree. Every. Time. I’m lucky it saves the game at the point AntVentor cuts the string but it happens each time. I can’t move forward that’s why it gets 1 star. I will definitely change my rating if I can continue the game.

Meme1214..

I’m totally ready for the next one! Amazing graphics and challenging

So far it’s crazy boring and dry.

justanee..

Every time I get to the crow in its nest that guarding an earring...game just crashing and I have to open it again. I’ve got IPhone 11... any updates coming sometime soon?

simon100..

It’s really hard to see some of the inventory items on a phone screen. Biggest question so far is when he falls out of the tree, the game shuts down. Is he dead, or is that a glitch?? UPDATE: I deleted the game, and downloaded it again. Now it crashes at any scene change. Oddly, I think it’s just too glitchy for my iPhone 8. Time for a refund.

Bossy711..

A little hard at 1st but really fun

This is such a nice game would like to play but the app that I downloaded I can not get the branch from the first tree please fix won’t allow me to get branch from spiderweb.

This little game was so much fun! I admit, a few of the “puzzles” were kind of confusing but the hint system is great and I was able to finish the game. I loved the graphics and the sound effects. The cute characters were so neat and I loved the interaction between them. The pug dog caterpillar was my favorite part. He was adorable. I learned from the credits that the pug is part of the development team and is named Sherlock. If you are looking for something to do during this quarantine, definitely give this game a try. It’s worth every penny!!!!

Scott

Really love this game! Smart, funny, and just the right amount of challenge. Can’t wait to see and play the next adventure.

Muskego

I tried to play the game, but couldn’t figure it out. Some of the objects were so tiny that I couldn’t even figure out what they were. It didn’t help that the scenery is very dark, making it almost impossible to see what I was doing. Gameplay eventually devolved into clicking on random stuff in random sequences to hopefully make progress, without a clue what I was doing. Finally in frustration, I gave up and uninstalled the game.

tis4tatt..

Great game but the people an update

Bryceeee..

Normally really enjoy these kinds of point and click adventure games and immediately fell in love with this little ant, but the found this game to be really frustrating. Graphics are beautiful but the puzzles didn’t make any sense at all to me. Ended up just quitting and deleting it.

Clever. Engaging. Different. This is the kind of game where the fun is over way too soon. Very creative -- even without the play, this is entertaining. This world is inhabited by curiously funny little creatures ... with opinions. The ant mutters, "duh", if you repeat your mistakes. I laughed. Haven't been critiqued like in a very long time. The plays flows smoothly, the controls and design work, music is good and art is delightful. It's totally worth the price. I wish chapter two was available, now.

loopguru

Despite App Store indicating it will work on my phone, and description saying it does on 5S...it does not. Waste of money App Store won’t provide refund. Developer claims description states it doesn’t work with 5S - that is true now, but not when I bought it. I have a screenshot of description before before they deceptively changed it upon reply to my comment.

Solrisen

There’s a lot to like here. It’s charming, the visuals are great, someone clearly loves games and put a ton of thought into it. But... it’s tedious. It’s the things you like least from Samarost: the walking around, the lack of clear direction. You’re going to have to rely heavily on the hint system, which has a waiting period each time and the hints are obscure sometimes. I’m having trouble getting through it, and I’m a diehard point and click gamer who really wants to appreciate this project. It truly is clever, and a lot of effort went into it. There are no real puzzles, it’s all “try to use things on things and then check if the hint timer is done”. But that’s okay; Machinarium and Samarost both have a lot of this. But they also have better hint systems, or at least, clearer hints. I’m going to keep playing. I’m not sorry I bought it, and I promise I’ll revise this review when I get to the next chapter. I will add, I haven’t experienced any actual bugs, and I’m on an iPhone 6. None of the control issues or crashes anyone else has reported, it’s been absolutely fine technically. In retrospect, I’m moving it from three to four stars, because I can see what the developers were going for. They haven’t quite got there in the first chapter, but I have high hopes for the next. And I want to encourage that, I think we will see great things from them in the future.

Antventer is one of those little unexpected gems that just don’t come along often enough. The little ant inventor is one of the most adorable and lovable protagonist. Special attention is paid to the artwork, the story and even the hint system. Hints advance as the player does and never give out big spoilers. It’s a bit short but with a promise to return with more adventures for our new little friend. Thank you devs for a charming story and I can hardly wait for more fun!

Trybefan..

Bad puzzles. Spent the first part of the game waiting for the clues to unlock. Finally go to a point that I just had no interest in this game anymore. Graphics are amazing but overall waste of money

fbtk

Game has well-made art, frustrating gameplay, and bad puzzles. Good puzzles in adventure games feel satisfying to solve because the player is being rewarded for picking up on some twisted logic that has been established within the world of the game. In this game, solving a puzzle is more like “huh, I guess I was supposed to put the chair under the heavy machine that the game tells me I can’t even lift” or “huh, I guess ants in this world are really turned on by human women — that sort of reminds me of old cartoons so I guess it’s technically joke-adjacent. Yay?” Three stars for (wasted) effort. (Edit: here’s a tiny violin for the devs on here trolling for sympathy points because they forgot to make their game fun 🎻)
