It is based on the 'Identification guide to the common coastal food fishes of the Pacific Islands region' (Brad Moore and Boris Colas) produced by the Pacific Community (SPC) to assist fisheries officers with the identification of the common coastal food fishes encountered in catches or during market surveys (http://www.spc.int/coastfish/en/component/content/article/465). This application has been produced with financial assistance from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the European Union through the 'Scientific Support for the Management of Coastal and Oceanic Fisheries in the Pacific Islands Region' (SciCOFish) project. This completely free App helps find and identify plants. When you give the App information about a plant, such as its location, flower color and the time of year, the App will quickly show you which plants match your selections. The App includes 1,225 species of plants found in Hawaii. Overall, 345 are "Wildflowers", 288 are shrubs, 252 are trees, 72 are vines, 3 are cactus, 130 are grass-like, 116 are fern-like, 60 are moss-like 13 are lichen and 157 are seaweed.
A Coral Reef in Your Pocket
This application allows users to view and interact with 3D models generated by the MEGA Lab. To use, first print out AR targets using the "TARGETS" button in the app. After you've printed out the targets, hit the "START" button and point your camera at the target. The digital model will be augmented on top of the target. Currently, this functions only as an AR app but I’m working on implementing functionality to make it easier to interact with for people without a printernon-AR capability is coming soon! I have John Hoover’s books and I use the app most because of the convenience for travel and multiple photos/videos. A few things that would make it a 5-star app: ability to sync sightings between devices and ability to make multiple sightings (you can add notes, but it’d be better if you could enter date and place in a form as well).
